When did you begin doing CrossFit? How long have you been with 5280 CrossFit?
I’ve been doing CrossFit for 5 years now, coaching for 4 years and I’ve been at 5280 for a few weeks now!
Why do you CrossFit?
When I started CrossFit, I was going through Yoga Instructor training and couldn’t do a proper push up. I went to a class with my mentor and fell in love with the training style. For me, CrossFit has always been a way to stay healthy through functional movement first and foremost. When I held a corporate position, my one hour of CrossFit was my one hour to unwind and shut my brain off in order to decompress. In the past few years, CrossFit has become my training to stay in shape for my outdoor adventures.
Are you married, single, in a relationship? Do you have any children (“furry” children included)?
I’m in a relationship – my boyfriend is a private chef and spoils me to no end with his cooking. I have three furry babies – Bruno (a teacup yorkie), Marlie (a pappilon), and Atticus my siamese cat.
What’s your favorite thing about living in Colorado?
Everything. I’m a Colorado native and I love everything the state has to offer. When I was younger, I was not outdoorsy at all. In recent years I’ve taken up backpacking, hiking, camping, snowshoeing, rock climbing, any and all new adventures.
Favorite activity to do outside the gym?
Travel to hike and camp. The summer is my season and I am outdoors as often as possible. I love getting to Utah since it’s so close, but I’m looking to add Montana and Washington to the agenda this year.
How do you make time for CrossFit in your weekly schedule? What’s helped you stay committed?
Before the week starts, I look at my schedule to see when I will have time to make classes and I tentatively put them on my schedule. It helps me hold myself accountable but also allows me to make time to work on my fitness when life gets crazy.
What motivates you as a coach and athlete at 5280 CrossFit?
Everyone here at 5280 CrossFit is amazing. My first CrossFit gym had a very tight-knit community and I haven’t been able to find that same sense of family/community/friendship until I walked in to 5280.
What’s your favorite workout (WOD) or movement?
I favorite WOD/movement is the Bear Complex. A traditional 5×7 lifting is my jam.
What is one CrossFit goal you are currently working on?
I’m working towards a body weight Snatch. It took a long time to get past the triple digits and the fear of this complex movement.

Share one CrossFit story… (funny, cool, inspiring, etc)
Last year I was working with a client who had lost a significant amount of weight over the past couple years. We had been working on her nutrition and she was taking my strength class, and our last night in class was max out night. She had mentioned to me that she wanted her deadlift max to be her old weight to symbolically prove how strong she has become. She lifted it with ease and I immediately began crying with joy knowing how much that meant to her. She later told me how relieved she was to have that weight lifted off her shoulders, to finally let go of her old body, and it has been one of the most amazing moments of my coaching career.
What advice do you have for someone thinking about starting CrossFit?
We all started somewhere. It doesn’t ever get easier, but things come together slowly and practicing patience and consistency in the gym will get you SO far. And none of us ever lose that butterfly feeling when we’re waiting for the clock to get to 3, 2, 1.
